Since the very beginning of mathematical genetics, models of natural selection in populations have been of interest. In this paper, a general multi-locus selection model is discussed which covers many models investigated earlier in the literature. The author considers an arbitrary number of autosomal loci each with two alleles in a random-mating population, and derives recurrence relations for the gametic frequencies under the assumption of viability selection (without position effects) and Mendelian segregation (with recombination). This model includes the symmetric viability model of \textit{R. C. Lewontin} and \textit{K. Kojima} [Evolution 14, 458-472 (1960)], additive and multiplicative models of \textit{W. F. Bodmer} and \textit{J. Felsenstein} [Genetics 57, 237-265 (1967)], and the general multiplicative selection model of \textit{S. Karlin} and \textit{U. Liberman} [see J. Math. Biology 7, 353-374 (1979; Zbl 0406.92015)]. Results on the stability of polymorphic equilibria as well as equilibria on boundaries are discussed.
