In this survey paper the author studies the G(A,\({\mathcal L})\)-operators (where A is any set and \({\mathcal L}\) is the family of complete lattices), defined by \textit{E. De Giorgi} [Topics in functional analysis 1980-81, Quad., Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, 117-148 (1981; Zbl 0493.49004)]. The author states some properties of such operators (composition in limitoids, semicontinuity and continuity, representation of G-operators, product of two G-operators, etc.), strictly connected to the properties of the family \({\mathcal L}\). Moreover, the author obtains a necessary and sufficient condition for the univocal extension of a G(A,2)-operator (where 2 is the lattice composed of only two (distinct) elements), in reply to a question of De Giorgi. Finally, he proves that a G-operator is not obtainable as a product of elementary G-operators.
