The authors study languages of geodesics and cone types for the lamplighter group \(L_m\) and Thompson's group \(F\). Among others they show that the group \(L_m\) (\(m\geq 2\)) has no regular geodesic language with respect to the wreath product generating set \(\{a,t\}\) nor with respect to the automata generating set \(\{t,ta\}\). They also prove that the full language of geodesics for \(L_2\) is not counter with respect \(\{a,t\}\) but it is 1-counter with respect to \(\{t,ta\}\).
