One of the main tools in numerical analysis, in particular in the analysis of the convergence of numerical approximations of partial differential equations, is the monotonicity of a real square matrix. The author uses monotonicity to obtain some result about perturbations of irreducibly diagonally dominant \(M\)-matrices, in fact he shows that some perturbations of irreducibly diagonally dominant \(M\)-matrices are monotone. Further, he gives an explicit bound of the norm of the perturbation. At the end of the paper, he shows an application of the results to an elliptic boundary value problem.
