The Hadamard \(t\) power of an \(m\times n\) matrix \(A\) is \(A^{(t)}=[a_{ij}^t]\). In the most usual terminology in Linear Algebra, the matrix \(A\) is said to be a totally nonnegative (totally positive) matrix if its minors are all nonnegative (positive). For shortening we shall write that \(A\) is a TN or TP matrix. These matrices are called, respectively, totally positive and strictly totally positive in Approximation Theory. In this paper Hadamard powers of entry-wise nonnegative or positive matrices, and in particular of TN or TP matrices are considered. The authors say that a matrix \(A\) is \textsl{eventually} TN or \textsl{eventually} TP if there exists an integer \(T\geq 0\) such that \(A^{(t)}\) is a TN (TP) matrix for all \(t>T\). The main aim of the paper is to characterize eventually TN and eventually TP matrices. Other similar concepts are also studied.
