The main interest is to localize periodic orbits for the Rössler system \[ \dot x=-y-z,\, \dot y=x+ay,\, \dot z=b+xz -cz, \] introduced in [Phys. Lett. A 57, 397--398 (1976; Zbl 1371.37062)]. The authors establish a number of algebraic conditions imposed on parameters under which the system has no compact invariant sets contained in half-spaces and in some other sets. They prove that if the system has no equilibria then it has no periodic orbits. They also give a localization condition for compact invariant sets.
