The main theorem of the present paper is the following so-called ``Generic Trichotomy Theorem'': if \(G\) is a simple \(K^*\)-group of finite Morley rank and odd type with Prüfer \(2\)-rank at least 3, then either \(G\) has a proper \(2\)-generated core, or \(G\) is an algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic different from \(2\). The proof essentially adapts the proof of Borovik via signalizer functors and balance in the tame case. The absence of a tameness assumption is replaced here by the abstract unipotence theory of the author.
