\textit{D. Kazhdan} and \textit{G. Lusztig} [Invent. Math. 87, 153-215 (1987; Zbl 0613.22004)] gave a classification of simple modules of a one-parameter affine Hecke algebra in terms of the geometry of nilpotent cones. The goal of this paper is to consider the more general setting of simple modules for a three-parameter Hecke algebra of type \(C_n^{(1)}\). Given a symplectic group \(G:=\text{Sp}(2n,\mathbb{C})\), let \(V_1\) denote the natural \(2n\)-dimensional module over \(\mathbb{C}\). Let \(V_2\) denote the second exterior power of \(V_1\) modulo \(\mathbb{C}\), and \(\mathbb{V}_\ell=V_1^{\oplus\ell}\oplus V_2\) for a non-negative integer \(\ell\). Consider the product of \(G\times^B\mathbb{V}_\ell\) over a Borel subgroup \(B\) and the projection \(G\times^B\mathbb{V}_\ell\to\mathbb{V}_\ell\). The author introduces (for \(\ell\in\{0,1,2\}\)) a so-called \(\ell\)-exotic nilpotent cone which is the image in \(\mathbb{V}_\ell\) of a certain subvariety of \(G\times^B\mathbb{V}_\ell\). Then, an affine Hecke algebra is identified as the complexification of an algebraic \(K\)-group (related to the 2-exotic nilpotent cone). The main work of the paper is devoted to studying the geometry of this nilpotent cone and nilpotent orbits (including the introduction of an ``exotic'' Springer correspondence) in order to get a characterization of isomorphism classes of simple modules for the Hecke algebra. The main result is that under mild assumptions the isomorphism classes correspond to conjugacy classes of certain ``admissible'' triples. By specialization, the theorem also applies to a two-parameter extended Hecke algebra of type \(B_n^{(1)}\). The author concludes the paper with several applications, obtaining multiplicity and character formulas for standard modules and a multiplicity formula for projective modules.
