The author proves an existence result for periodic solutions of a scalar ordinary differential equation involving the \(p\)-Laplacian, thus improving a result by \textit{R. Manasevich} and \textit{J. Mawhin} [J. Differ. Equations 145, No.~2, 367--393 (1998; Zbl 0910.34051)]. Roughly speaking, the nonlinearity is assumed to stay below the first eigenvalue. An uniqueness result is also obtained, under some monotonicity assumptions.
