The paper deals with reduced algebraic curves in \(\mathbb{C}^2\) which are topological embeddings of \(\mathbb{C}^*\) (plane algebraic annuli). Its main theorem presents a list of embedded annuli which satisfy a so-called regularity condition studied by the authors [J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 48, No. 3, 529--570 (2008; Zbl 1174.14028)]. The aim of the work is to classify the algebraic annuli up to equivalence defined by: polynomial diffeomorphisms of the plane, change of parametrization. The method used (developed in [Pac. J. Math. 229, No. 2, 307--338 (2007; Zbl 1153.14026)]) relies on estimate of numerical invariants of local singularities, like the Milnor number, in terms of suitably defined codimensions of the singularities; the sum of these invariants is given by the Poincaré-Hopf formula applied to a suitable vector field.
