The author investigates the form of a rational primitive polynomial of two complex variables. The main result of this paper is the following Theorem. Let \(p:\mathbb{C}^2 \to \mathbb{C}\) be a primitive rational polynomial whose zero fiber \(\Gamma_0\) is degenerate and isomorphic to \(\mathbb{C}^*\). Then there is a polynomial coordinate system \((x,y)\) in \(\mathbb{C}^2\) for which the polynomial \(p(x,y)\) coincides with one of the following forms \[ a\bigl(\psi^{nm+1} + (\psi^n+x)^m \bigr)/x^m, \] \[ a\bigl(\psi^{(nm-1)} +(\psi^n+x)^m \bigr)/x^m, \] where \(a\in \mathbb{C}^*\); \(n,m\in \mathbb{N}\), \(m\geq 2\), \(n\geq 1\), \[ \psi(x,y)= x^my+ a_{m-1} x^{m-1}+ \cdots + a_1 x-1 \] and all coefficients \(a_{m-1},\dots,a_1\) are determined uniquely by the condition that each of the above forms must be a polynomial. In the second formula \(n\geq 2\) if \(m=2\).
