Numerical methods for Fredholm integral equations on the square (Q654722): Difference between revisions

The paper is devoted to the construction and investigation of numerical methods for two-dimensional Fredholm integral equations on a square. The problem is considered in a weighted setting, allowing the given functions and the unknown solutions to have weak singularities at the boundaries of the fundamental domain. Two concrete approaches are followed, a collocation scheme and a Nyström method, both based on polynomial interpolation on grids using zeros of Jacobi polynomials in either variable. Sufficient conditions (in particular concerning the weight functions) are given for the algorithms to be stable and convergent. Error estimates in suitable weighted norms are given as well.
