The author considers a system of conservation laws in one space dimension, say, the Euler equations of gas dynamics. For such systems, solutions generally have to be interpreted in a weak sense, as they may develop discontinuities. A suitable form is chosen since, under sufficiently strong stability assumptions, the numerical solution will converge to a weak solution. Because weak solutions are not unique, to single out a physically relevant solution, an extra, so-called entropy condition is necessary. In [ibid. 63, No. 6, 985--1003 (2012; Zbl 1263.65083)], the author and \textit{S. Mishra} have constructed entropy stable schemes for initial-boundary-value conservation laws. Two different approaches have been taken to derive high-order entropy-stable schemes for initial-boundary-value conservation laws. The second approach is the main scheme of this paper (termed the dual-diffusion scheme). In the interior, the scheme is the same as the fourth-order scheme proposed in the quoted paper, and here, boundary closures are proposed. It uses two (three near the boundary) diffusion coefficients and limiter functions that engage the diffusion by monitoring the entropy production. Solutions generated by this scheme are entropy stable and satisfy a global entropy estimate for the homogeneous entropy. Furthermore, a fourth-order entropy-stable background diffusion is derived. Numerical computations demonstrate the robustness and accuracy of the dual-diffusion scheme.
