    Consider the polynomial planar system \[ \begin{aligned} {dx\over dt} &=\alpha x+ y+ \sum_{2\leq i+j\leq n} a_{ij} x^i y^j,\\ {dy\over dt} &= -x+\alpha y+ \sum_{2\leq i+j\leq n} b_{ij} x^i y^j,\end{aligned}\tag{\(*\)} \] where \(\alpha\) is a real parameter and \(a_{ij}\) and \(b_{ij}\) are given real numbers. It is assumed that the Lyapunov quantity \(v_3\) of the equilibrium at the origin is different from zero. This implies that Hopf bifurcation occurs at the origin when \(\alpha\) crosses \(0\), and that a unique small amplitude limit cycle bifurcates from the origin. The author presents an approach to construct a Dulac-Cherkas function in order to determine a neighborhood \(U_{\delta_0}\) of the origin in the phase plane and a neighborhood \(I_{\alpha_0}\) of \(\alpha=0\) such that \((*)\) has at most one limit cycle in \(U_{\delta_0}\) for \(\alpha\in K_{\alpha_0}\).
