The question inasmuch the collection of simple modules stays invariant under stable equivalence concerns one of the big mysteries in representation theory of finite dimensional algebras. The image of this collection has obvious properties which define ``simple-minded systems'' [\textit{S. Koenig} and \textit{Y. Liu}, Q. J. Math. 63, No. 3, 653--674 (2012; Zbl 1260.16012)]. The problem is whether each simple-minded system is ``simple-minded'' in the sense that it comes from a collection of simple modules via stable equivalence. As the stable category is triangulated, it is natural to study the problem in a triangulated framework. This is done in the paper under review, where subsets of simple-minded systems are considered. With respect to an associated torsion theory, mutations are introduced, similar to those of \textit{S. Koenig} and \textit{D. Yang} [Doc. Math., J. DMV 19, 403--438 (2014; Zbl 1350.16010)] for bounded derived categories. The point is that mutations can be iterated, which gives a certain hope for a better understanding of simple-minded collections.
