Recall that the behaviour of the bicanonical map of a surface of general type is well understood, except for some small values of the numerical invariants. The author studies one of these cases, namely, he considers the bicanonical map of a minimal surface of general type with \(K^2=7\) and \(p_g=q=1\). He proves that for such a surface the degree is either 1 or 2; furthermore, in the degree 2 case he proves that the bicanonical image is either (1) birational to a Kummer surface or (2) a rational surface, and he describes the branch locus of the bicanonical map. Only case (2) is known to exist (cf. [\textit{C. Rito}, Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Cl. Sci. (5) 6, No. 1, 81--102 (2007; Zbl 1180.14040)]).
