Some Lyapunov inequalities for \(N\)-dimensional (linear and quasilinear) elliptic operators with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions are established in this article. Let \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^N\) be an open set, \(u \in W_0^{1,p}(\Omega)\) be a nontrivial solution of \(-\Delta_pu = \omega(x) |u|^{p-2}u\) in \(\Omega\) with zero Dirichlet boundary condition. When \(p> N\), \(\omega \in L^1(\Omega)\) be a non-negative weight, then \(\frac{C}{r_\Omega^{p-N}} \leq \parallel \omega \parallel_{L^1(\Omega)}\), where \(C\) is an universal constant depending only on \(p, N\), and \(r_\Omega\) is the inner radius of \(\Omega\). Here the power of \(r_\Omega\) is optimal. For \(p>N\), the authors also consider singular and degenerate elliptic problems with \(A_p\) coefficients involving the \(p\)-Laplacian operator with zero Dirichlet boundary condition. As for \(1<p< N\), \(\Omega\) being a smooth domain, \(\frac{N}{p}<s\), \(\omega \in L^s(\Omega)\), then \(\frac{C}{r_\Omega^{(sp-N)/s}}<\parallel w \parallel_{L^s(\Omega)}\), where \(C\) depends on \(p, N\) and the capacity of \(\mathbb{R}^N \backslash \Omega\). Here the power of \(r_\Omega\) is optimal too. An application of these inequalities are given to derive lower bounds for the first eigenvalue of the \(p\)-Laplacian.
