In this nice work the authors classify infinitesimal polar actions on compact Riemannian symmetric spaces of rank one. The main result states that isometric and effective actions on complex projective spaces, quaternionic projective spaces, and the Cayley projective plane are either polar or contained in a short list of additional cases. The proof uses the observation that asystatic actions are polar with respect to any invariant metric; for complex and quaternionic projective spaces the classification can be achieved in a relatively straightforward manner (Section 2); the remaining case (the Cayley projective plane) requires an extensive and involved analysis of low-dimensional spin groups and \(G_2\) (Section 3). This results complements work of C. Gorodski and A. Lytchak, considering infinitesimal polar actions on Euclidean spheres (and consequently on real projective spaces), thus completing the classification of infinitesimal polar actions on compact rank-\(1\)-symmetric spaces.
