The paper introduces various new notions and notations associated to semi-inner products in real normed spaces. In particular, the notion of \(\varepsilon\) semi-orthogononality is considered: \(x\perp_s^\varepsilon y\) if \(|[x|y]|\leq\varepsilon\|x\| \cdot \|y\|\). Other similar notions associated to norm derivatives are introduced. Some new characterizations of rotundity and smoothness of dual spaces are announced. For instance, Theorem 2.4 provides a quantitative necessary condition to reflexivity.
