    The authors prove the existence of global solutions to the parabolic-elliptic chemotaxis system \[ \begin{align*}{ \partial_t u & = \mathrm{div}\left( \nabla u - \chi u |\nabla v|^{p-2} \nabla v \right)\ , \qquad t>0\ , \ x\in\Omega\ , \cr -\Delta v & = u - M \ , \qquad t>0\ , \ x\in\Omega\ , \cr 0 & = \int_\Omega v(t,x)\ dx\ , \qquad t> 0\ , }\end{align*} \] supplemented with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions for \(u\) and \(v\) and an initial condition \(u_0\in C^{2,\alpha}(\bar{\Omega})\) for \(u\) satisfying \[ \int_\Omega u_0(x)\;dx = M |\Omega|\;. \] Here, \(\Omega\) is a smooth bounded domain of \(\mathbb{R}^N\), \(N\geq 1\), \(\chi\) and \(M\) are positive parameters, and \[ p\in (1,\infty) \;\text{ if}\; N=1\;, \qquad p\in \left[ 1,\frac{N}{N-1} \right) \;\text{ if }\; N\geq 2\;. \] Recall that the classical Keller-Segel chemotaxis model corresponds to \(p=2\) and note that \(2>N/(N-1)\) for \(N\geq 2\). Within this framework, existence of a global solution \((u,v)\) is obtained for all values of \(\chi\) and \(M\) and \(u\) actually belongs to \(L^\infty((0,\infty)\times\Omega)\). When \(N=1\) and \(p\in (1,2)\), the existence of infinitely many stationary solutions is shown for all values of \(\chi\) and \(M\). This last result follows by recasting the stationary problem as an Hamiltonian system for \(w=\ln(u/M)\) and \(\beta=\partial_x w\).
