The main object under consideration is the class of semi-infinite Jacobi matrices \(J(\{b_n\},\{a_n\})\) subject to \[ a_n>0, \quad b_n\in\mathbb{R}, \quad \sup_n a_n+\sup_n a_n^{-1}+\sup_n |b_n|<\infty. \] The Lebesgue decomposition of the canonical spectral measure is \(\mu(J)=f(x)dx+\mu_s\). The paper focuses on the Jacobi matrices such that, for some positive integer \(q\), \[ \sum_{n=1}^\infty |a_{n+q}-a_n|^2+\sum_{n=1}^\infty |b_{n+q}-b_n|^2<\infty. \] The authors discuss the following conjecture of \textit{J. Breuer} et al. [Constr. Approx. 32, No. 2, 221--254 (2010; Zbl 1198.42021)]: \[ \Sigma_{ac}(J):=\{x\in\mathbb{R}: \;f(x)>0\}=\bigcap_R \sigma\bigl(J^{(r)}\bigr), \] where \(R\) is the class of all right limits \(J^{(r)}\) of \(J\). They prove this conjecture for \(q=1\) and show that it is in general false for \(q>1\).
