Toward a Galois theory of the integers over the sphere spectrum (Q1641862): Difference between revisions

In this expository paper, the authors review some aspects about (Hopf-) Galois extensions of structured ring spectra [\textit{J. Rognes}, Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 898, 137 p. (2008; Zbl 1166.55001)] and generalized Thom spectra [\textit{M. Ando} et al., J. Topol. 7, No. 3, 869--893 (2014; Zbl 1312.55011)]. They argue that the unit of the Eilenberg-Mac\,Lane spectrum of the integers can be viewed as an \(\mathcal E_2\)-Galois extension and relate this for example to hypothetical statements about the geometry over the field with one element.
