Let \(D\) be a division ring with center \(F\), and \(K\) an intermediate subring. If a noncentral subgroup \(N\) of \(D^{\times}\) is left algebraic over \(K\), does it follow that \(D\) is left algebraic as well? Positive answers are provided in two cases: when \(N\) is a normal subgroup and \(F\) is uncountable; and when \(N\) is a derived subgroup of \(D^{\times}\) and the algebricity is of bounded degree.
