Let \(B\subseteq A\) be a pair of rings such that \(A\) is a free left \(B\)-module. We say that \(A\) is a `left algebraic' over \(B\) if for every \(\alpha\in A\), there exists some natural number \(n\) and some elements \(a_0,\ldots,a_n\in B\) such that \(a_n\) is regular and \(\sum_{i=0}^n a_i\alpha^i=0\). Using this notion of left algebraicity, in the article under review, the authors prove an analogue of Kaplansky's theorem on primitive algebraic algebras. More exactly, they prove the following theorem: Theorem. Let \(d\) be a natural number, let \(D\) be a division ring with center \(Z(D)\), and \(K\) be a subfield of \(D\). If \(D\) is left algebraic of bounded degree \(d\) over \(K\), then \([D:Z(D)]\leq d^2\). Also, in the article, the authors pose some open problems for \(k\)-algebras being left (right) algebraic over a field \(k\).
