In the interesting paper [\textit{T. Gallay} et al., Nonlinear Sci. 27, No. 5, 1641--1666 (2017; Zbl 1386.37023)] some finite- and infinite-dimensional examples of nonlinear stabilization of exponentially unstable linear maps with Gateaux differentiability were given. This paper presents an example of a discrete dynamical system \(u_{n+1}=T(u_n)\) in an infinite-dimensional separable Hilbert space for which the origin is an exponentially asymptotically stable fixed point, but such that its Fréchet derivative \(DT(0)\) at the origin has the spectral radius larger than unity. The construction is based on a classical example in operator theory due to S. Kakutani (see [\textit{C. E. Rickart}, General theory of Banach algebras. The University Series in Higher Mathematics. Princeton etc.: D. Van Nostrand (1960; Zbl 0095.09702)]).
