This paper is concerned with the discontinuous limit case of a coupled SD oscillator with a Van der Pol damping. The authors give completely the bifurcation diagram and all global phase portraits of this system. Further, they obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of limit cycles and grazing cycles using qualitative theory for smooth and non-smooth systems. It is shown that this system has at most two large limit cycles, two small limit cycles, one large double limit cycle and three classes of grazing cycles in different parameter regions. The main results are illustrated by two concrete examples.
