The goal of this article is to study frame-type decompositions for a wide class of compactly supported MRA-based dual wavelet systems \(\{\psi^{(\nu)}_{jk}\}\), \(\{\widetilde{\psi}^{(\nu)}_{jk}\}\), which are not necessarily frames. The paper is organized as follows: Section 1 is an introduction where, among other things, a scaling operator \(Q_j(f, \varphi, \widetilde{\varphi})\) is defined. In Section 2 this operator is studied in different spaces. In particular, the limit of \(Q_j(f, \varphi, \widetilde{\phi})\) as \(j \to \pm\infty\) is investigated for arbitrary appropriate functions or distributions \(\varphi\), \(\widetilde{\varphi}\). In Section 3, the authors assume that \(\varphi\) and \(\widetilde{\varphi}\) are refinable and consider associated dual wavelet systems \(\psi\), \(\widetilde{\psi}\). They investigate whether these systems are frame-like or almost frame-like in different situations, and study the approximation order of certain frame-type decompositions. In Section 4, several examples are presented.
