The aim of this paper is the construction of rational operators for the weighted uniform approximation of functions with inner singularities in \([-1,1]\). The operators are positive and interpolatory. The author shows that for such operators the weighted convergence with exponential type weights is not guaranteed in general and then he considers weights vanishing algebraically at an inner point \(c\) and functions belonging to the class \[ C_\omega=\{f \in C([-1,1]-\{c\})| \lim_{z\to c^\pm}(wf)(x)=0\}. \] The case of several singularities can be treated similarly. Then he obtains some direct and converse results for this approximation problem and proves that the estimates cannot be reached by polynomials.
