In this paper, the authors study the stability of a system of two coupled nonlinear oscillators with one free to slide and the other being damped. An external force is applied to the mass being damped. The authors prove that, under suitable assumptions, the null solution of the system is uniformly stable. Asymptotic stability can be achieved if an addition assumption is included. They start with the simple case of equal masses, then extend to different masses and finally to the general case of the whole real line.
