    Consider the Bernstein polynomials \(p_{n,k} (x) = {n\choose k} x^k (1-x)^{n-k} \) for \( x \in [0,1] \) and the exponential functions \( q_{n,k} (x) = e^{-nx} {(nx)^k\over k!} \) for \(x \in [0, \infty]\). Let \( f \in C ({\mathcal R}), {\mathcal R} := [0,1] \times [0,\infty) \) and let the linear positive operators \(L^{\alpha_i, \beta_j}_{m,n} , i,j = 1,2 \) be defined as \[ L^{\alpha_i, \beta_j}_{mn} := \sum^\infty_{k=0}\sum^n_{\nu=0} p_{m,\nu} (x) \, q_{n,k}(y) \, f \left( {\nu + \alpha_1 \over m + \beta_1}, {k+\alpha_2 \over n + \beta_2}\right) \] for \((x,y) \in {\mathcal R},\, m , n \in \mathbb{N} ,\, 0 \leq \alpha_j \leq \beta_j , \, j = 1,2 . \) In this paper, some approximation properties of these linear operators in the space \(C ([0,1] \times [0,A]) \) with \(A > 0 \) are studied. The rate of convergence of the sequence \(\{L_{m,n}^{\alpha_i, \beta_j}\}\) to \(f\) is given using the modulus of continuity. Further an \(r\)-th order generalization of these operators is defined. Finally the convergence properties of \(L^{\alpha_i, \beta_j}_{m,n}\) in \(a\) weighted function space is considered.
