Fuzzy modal operators express interactions between binary fuzzy relations and fuzzy sets. In this paper, the authors essentially address the following two problems: Can fuzzy modal operators be used to characterize properties of (some) fuzzy relations? To what extent classical characterizations can be generalized to the fuzzy case? To achieve these goals, the authors define 6 fuzzy modal operators (based on a left-continuous t-norm \(T\), its adjoint residual implication \(I\) and the negation \(n\), \(n(x)= I(x,0)\)) and provide characterizations of main classes of binary fuzzy relations by means of these operators. The presented results can be considered as a starting point for the investigatien of fuzzy information logics, i.e., fuzzy generalizations of information logics introduced by E. Orlowska.
