The authors study a discontinuous system of differential equations \[ \dot{x}=y,\quad \dot{y}=-g(x)+\epsilon f(t,x,y),\quad | x| <1, \] with the ``jump of velocity'' condition \[ y\mapsto -(1-\rho\epsilon)y,\quad | x| =1, \] where \(\epsilon\) is a small parameter. This system models an inverted pendulum impacting at rigid walls (where \(| x| =1\)). They apply the method of subharmonic Melnikov functions to establish the existence of asymmetric type II subharmonic orbits (i.e., orbits that bounce back and forth between both walls).
