    Let \(\mathbb Z_p\) denote the ring of \(p\)-adic integers. The (subalgebra) zeta function of a \(\mathbb Z_p\)-algebra \(L\), additively isomorphic to \(\mathbb Z^n_p\), is the Dirichlet series \[ \zeta_L(s):= \sum_{H\leq L} (L: H)6{-s}, \] where the sum ranges over subalgebras of finite index in \(L\). Such zeta functions play an important role in the subject of subgroup growth (see, for example, [\textit{M. P. F. du Sautoy} and \textit{F. J. Grunewald}, Proceedings of the international congress of mathematicians (ICM), Madrid, Spain, Volume II: Invited lectures. Zürich: European Mathematical Society (EMS), 131--149 (2006; Zbl 1112.20024)]). The author unifies and generalizes the existing computations of \(\xi_L(s)\) for three-dimensional \(\mathbb Z_p\)-Lie algebras \(L\). He gives an explicit formula for the subalgebra zeta function of a general three-dimensional Lie algebra over \(\mathbb Z_p\) (Theorem 1.1 and explicit computations in section 4). The method is to reduce the computations to the classical Igusa's local zeta function \(Z_f(s)\) associated to a ternary quadratic form \(f\) (naturally associated to a three-dimensional \(\mathbb Z_p\)-Lie algebra). Such \(f\) is defined in terms of the structure constants of \(L\) with respect to a given \(\mathbb Z_p\)-basis. We should stress that the case of three-dimensional Lie algebras is the first non-trivial one as far as subalgebra zeta functions are concerned.
