Motivated by the analysis of the nonlinear Boussinesq equation \(u_{tt}-\Delta u+\alpha\Delta^2 u-2\varepsilon\Delta u_t= \beta \Delta f(u)\), the authors study properties of the semigroup generated by the dissipative-dispersive operator \(\Delta \pm ip(|\nabla|)\) where \(p\) is a function satisfying together with its derivatives polynomial bounds. The estimates in homogeneous Besov spaces lead to a couple of regularity and decay estimates in Sobolev spaces featuring an additional decay that results from the interaction of the dissipative and the dispersive part of the generator of the semigroup. Then, these new estimates are applied to the study of the second order in time Boussinesq equation.
