New combinatorial constructions for the near hexagons \(\mathbb I_3\) and \(DQ(6,2)\) in terms of ordered pairs of collinear points of the generalized quadrangle \(W(2)\) were given by \textit{B. K. Sahoo} [Discrete Math. 308, No. 10, 2018--2024 (2008; Zbl 1155.51003)]. Replacing \(W(2)\) by an arbitrary dual polar space of type \(DQ(2n,2), n\geq 2\), a generalization of these constructions is obtained. By using a construction alluded to in [\textit{B. De Bruyn}, J. Geom. 78, No. 1--2, 50--58 (2003; Zbl 1050.51010)], it is shown that these generalized constructions give rise to near \(2n\)-gons which are isomorphic to \(\mathbb I_n\) and \(DQ(2n,2)\). In this way a recursive construction for the dual polar spaces \(DQ(2n,2), n\geq 2\), is obtained, different from the one given in [\textit{B. N. Cooperstein} and \textit{E. E. Shult}, J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 78, No. 1, 120--140 (1997; Zbl 0877.51004)].
