The authors consider tensors (arrays) of type \(3\times 3 \times 3\), over the complex field, and determine a representation for their hyperdeterminant \(\Delta_{333}\). The \textit{hyperdeterminant} in a space of tensors is the invariant corresponding to an equation of the dual variety to the variety of decomposable tensors. It is known that the hyperdeterminant \(\Delta_{333}\) is a polynomial of degree \(36\), which can be expressed in terms of the fundamental invariants \(I_6,I_9, I_{12}\) of the action of the group \(\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb C)\times\mathrm{SL}_3 (\mathbb C)\times \mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb C)\). In particular, \(\Delta_{333}\) can be written as a linear combination of \(I_6^6, I_6^4I_{12}, I_6^3I_9^2\), \(I_6^2I_{12}^2, I_6I_9^2I_{12}, I_9^4\) and \(I_{12}^3\). The authors compute explicitly the coefficients of the linear combination.
