The aim of the paper is the proof of the following theorem: Let \(S\) be an affine space of dimension \(d\geq 2\) and order \(q=2\) embedded as a maximal arc in a projective plane \(\Pi\) of finite order \(n\). Let \(l\) be an exterior line of \(S\) in \(\Pi\). Let \(G\) be a collineation group of \(\Pi\) fixing \(S\), fixing \(l\) and line transitive on \(S\). Then \(d=2\), \(G\supseteq T(S)\) and \(S=\Pi\setminus l\) is a transition affine plane. This theorem is a generalization of the theorem of Wagner, which says that if \(A\) is a finite affine plane and \(G\) a group of collineations of \(A\) which is transitive on lines of \(A\), then \(G\supseteq T(A)\) and \(A\) is a translation plane, to higher dimensions.
