The authors study a class of infinite dimensional Lie algebras \(L_ \Lambda\), the quantum tori Lie algebras (QTLA), and dynamical systems on these algebras. The algebras were introduced as trigonometrical algebras by \textit{D. B. Fairlie}, \textit{P. Fletcher} and \textit{C. K. Zachos} in Phys. Lett. B 218, 203-206 (1989; Zbl 0689.17018). They arise as natural commutators of certain associative algebras and depend on the real parameter \(\Lambda\). In the paper under review 3 different representations of the associative algebras are given: the vertex representation, the star product representation and the representation as a subalgebra of \(\overline {{\mathfrak gl} (\infty)}\), the algebra of two- sided infinite dimensional matrices with only a finite number of nonzero diagonals. These representations are thoroughly studied in the article. For the Lie algebras \(L_ \Lambda\) a \(\mathbb{Z}/2 \mathbb{Z}\)-grading is introduced. As associated integrable dynamical systems are studied the Toda chain and the generalizations to the infinite dimensional setting of the Euler top and the rigid body in an external field. For more information on the techniques relating infinite dimensional Lie algebras to dynamical systems the book of \textit{J. Hoppe} on ``Lectures on integrable systems'' [Springer Lect. Notes Phys., New Ser. m10 (1992; Zbl 0784.70001)] might be useful.
