The authors prove a variety of results on (non-commutative) rings which admit a dualizing complex that satisfies a homological condition, called the Auslander condition by the authors. The general philosophy is that appropriate modifications of results on Auslander-Gorenstein rings continue to hold under the much weaker condition of admitting an Auslander dualizing complex. The authors start by discussing the notion of a dualizing complex for two algebras. Various examples as well as special results for the case of commutative algebras are discussed. It is shown that a dualizing complex gives rise to two convergent double-Ext spectral sequences. Next, the Auslander property for dualizing complexes is introduced. An Auslander dualizing complex is shown to give rise to a finitely partitive, exact dimension function, which is studied in detail. The next section is devoted to the study of rigid dualizing complexes as introduced by \textit{M. Van den Bergh} [J. Algebra 195, No. 2, 662-679 (1997; Zbl 0894.16020)]. The next two sections study the Auslander condition in the realm of balanced dualizing complexes over graded rings. Finally the authors prove that filtrations can be used to carry over results on graded algebras to the non-graded case, thus arriving at several sufficient conditions for the existence of Auslander dualizing complexes.
