The paper proposes a characterization of the relation between the critical Fujita number of the equation \(\Delta u-Vu+u^p-u_t=0\) and the potentials \(V\) behaving like \(\pm a/(1+d(x)^b)\) with \(a>0\) and \(b\in{\mathbb{R}}.\) Global estimates of Schrödinger heat kernels and a Liouville theorem for semilinear elliptic equations are also obtained.
