Construction of BLT-sets over small fields. (Q1422390)

The authors describe the history of search for BLT-sets over small fields in detail. Then they give basic notions of necessary parts of the theory of BLT-sets with historical annotations. The main structure for searching BLT-sets are the projective general orthogonal groups of dimension five over fields of order \(q\leq 97\) as permutation groups on the points of the associated parabolic quadric \(Q(4,q)\). A brief outline of the techniques used to search for BLT-sets using the computer algebra package MAGMA and a list of all known examples of BLT-sets are given. In total, 28 new BLT-sets for \(27\leq q\leq 125\) are presented giving rise to 158 new flocks of the quadratic cone in \(\text{PG}(3,q)\).
