The following theorem is proved: For any set \(A\subseteq \mathbb R^k\) with upper metric density \(\delta (A)>0\) and any set \(V=\{x_1,\dots,x_k\}\subseteq \mathbb R^k\) spanning a nondegenerate \((k-1)\)-dimensional simplex, there exists a number \(\lambda_0\) such that \(A\) contains an isometric image of \(\lambda V\) for any \(\lambda >\lambda_0\). The case \(k=2\) had been proved by Y. Katznelson and B. Weiss (preprint) [see also H. Furstenberg, Y. Katznelson and B. Weiss, Mathematics of Ramsey theory, Coll. Pap. Symp. Graph Theory, Prague/Czech., Algorithms Comb. 5, 184--198 (1990; Zbl 0738.28013)]. In an appendix the author establishes a result on double integrals over compact abelian groups from which \textit{K. F. Roth}'s celebrated pre-Szemerédi theorem on arithmetic progressions follows [J. Lond. Math. Soc. 28, 104--109 (1953; Zbl 0050.04002)].
