With each conjugacy class of automorphisms of the Leech lattice there is associated a modular function f for a certain modular group G; cf. also \textit{G. Mason} [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 21, No.1, 51-56 (1989; Zbl 0685.20005)], who deals with the same construction in a more general situation. By \textit{M.-L. Lang} [J. Math. Soc. Japan 41, No.2, 263-284 (1989; Zbl 0653.10025)] there are exactly 15 conjugacy classes for which the function field of the Riemann surface corresponding to G is not generated by f. In these cases the authors now find that the Galois closure of the field extension has genus one, and they study the corresponding (five) elliptic curves.
