The authors continue the study of weighted Coifman-Fefferman type estimates for the one-sided square function \[ S^+f(x)= \Biggl(\sum_{n\in\mathbb{Z}}| A_{2^n} f(x)- A_{2^{n-1}}f(x)| ^2\Biggr)^{1/2} \] where \(A_sf(x)=\frac{1}{s}\int_x^{x+s}f(t)\,dt\) is a one-sided average, such estimates being obtained by \textit{A. de la Torre} and \textit{J. L. Torrea} [Stud. Math. 156, No. 3, 243--260 (2003; Zbl 1017.42009)] and \textit{M. Lorente, M. S. Riveros} and \textit{A. de la Torre} [J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 11, No. 5, 497--509 (2005; Zbl 1096.42006)]. In particular, in [Zbl 1096.42006] it was shown that \[ \int_\mathbb{R} (S^+f)^p w \leq \int_\mathbb{R} ((M^+)^3f)^p w \] where \(w\in A_\infty^+\) and \((M^+)^3\) stands for the 3 times iterated corresponding maximal operator. The authors obtain a two-fold generalization of this result: they admit a bigger operator on the left-hand side and a smaller operator on the right-hand side. This is achieved by taking only two iterates on the right hand side and replacing \(A_sf(x)\) by the pointwise bigger operator \(\mathcal{O}^+f(x)\) expressed in terms of oscillation of the averages: \[ \mathcal{O}^+f(x)= \Biggl(\sum_{n\in\mathbb{Z}}\sup_{s\in J_n}| A_{2^n} f(x)- A_sf(x)| ^2\Biggr)^{1/2} \] where \(J_n=\left[2^n,2^{n+1}\right).\) The authors also study commutators of the operators \(S^+\) and \(\mathcal{O}^+\) with BMO-functions.
