    The goal of the very clearly written article under review is the translation of Mo\-chi\-zu\-ki's work on torally crys-stable bundles and torally indigenous bundles [\textit{S. Mochizuki}, Foundations of \(p\)-adic Teichmüller theory. AMS/IP Studies in Advanced Mathematics. 11. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS). (1999; Zbl 0969.14013)] into the language of logarithmic connections on vector bundles of rank 2 on curves. Let \(A\) be a local ring and set \(S:=\text{Spec} A\). Moreover, let \(C\) be a smooth proper curve of genus \(g\) over \(S\) with disjoint sections \(P_{1},\dots,P_{r}\) where we assume \text {\(2g-2+r>0\)}. We recall that a torally crys-stable bundle is a pair \((E,\nabla)\) consisting of a vector bundle \(E\) with a connection \(\nabla\) which, roughly speaking, does not admit any horizontal sections of canonical height \(\leq 0\) (see [loc.cit. Chapter 1, Definition 1.2.] for a precise definition). The author proves that such a torally crys-stable bundle on \(C\) of radii \(\{\rho_{i}\}\) is equivalent to an equivalence class of vector bundles \(\mathcal{E}\) of rank \(2\) on \(C\), together with logarithmic \(S\)-connection \(\nabla\) having \(p\)-trivial determinant, satisfying certain conditions. This relation between torally crys-stable bundles and rk \(2\)-bundles enables us to deduce immediate implications on the subjects of Frobenius unstable vector bundles and the generalized Verschiebung rational map induced on moduli spaces of vector bundles by pulling back under Frobenius. These subjects have been recently studied by several people [see for instance \textit{K. Joshi, S. Ramanan, E. Z. Xia, J.-K. Yu}, Compos. Math. 142, No. 3, 616--630 (2006; Zbl 1101.14049), \textit{H. Lange, C. Pauly}, Comment. Math. Helv. 83, No. 1, 179--209 (2008; Zbl 1157.14017), \textit{Y. Laszlo, C. Pauly}, J. Algebr. Geom. 11, No. 2, 219--243 (2002; Zbl 1080.14527) or \textit{B. Osserman}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 360, No. 1, 273--305 (2008; Zbl 1140.14030)]. Furthermore, it is shown how Mochizuki's work can be used to describe rational functions with prescribed ramification in positive characteristic.
