The authors investigate solutions in the complex plane \(\mathbb C\) of the Beltrami equation \(\partial \Phi(z)/\partial \overline{z}=\mu(z)\partial \Phi(z)/\partial z\), \(\|\mu\|_\infty<1\). There is an essentially unique homeomorphic solution of the equation in \(W^{1,2}_{\text{loc}}(C)\) which is called the associated quasiconformal mapping. The main result is the following Theorem. Let \(\{\Omega_j\}\), \(1\leq j\leq N\), be a finite family of disjoint bounded domains of the plane of class \(C^{1+\varepsilon}\), \(0<\varepsilon<1\), and let \(\mu=\sum_{j=1}^N \mu_j\chi_{\Omega_j}\), where \(\mu_j\) is of class \(\text{Lip}(\varepsilon,\Omega_j)\). Assume in addition that \(\|\mu\|_\infty<1\). Then the associated quasiconformal mapping \(\Phi\) is bilipschitz. As a corollary, smoothness and locally lipschitzness of solutions of the second order elliptic equation \(\text{div} (A\nabla u)=0\) is proved (Corollary 2). The proof of Theorem is based on reduction to the case \(N=1\) and the following remarkable property of the Calderón-Zygmund operators \(T(f)(x):=\text{v.~p.}\int_{R^n}f(x-y)K(y)dy\), \(K(x)=\omega(x)/\|x\|^n\), named extra cancellation: if \(\omega\) is an even homogeneous function of degree \(0\), integrable on the unit sphere and with vanishing mean value, then \(T(\chi_B)\chi_B=0\) (Lemma~3). Lemma~3 allows to prove the Main Lemma on boundedness of the Calderón-Zygmund operator in \(\text{Lip}(\varepsilon,\Omega)\) for \(\Omega\) with \(C^{1+\varepsilon}\)-smooth boundary; an estimate of its norm is obtained as well.
