Let \(K\) be a commutative ring with identity and let \(R\) be a prime \(K\)-algebra, with centre \(Z(R)\), extended centroid \(C\), and right Utumi quotient ring \(U\) (with centre \(C\)). Let \(g\) be a generalized derivation on \(R\), in other words \(g\colon R\to R\) is an additive map such that, for all \(x,y\in R\) we have \(g(xy)=g(x)y+xd(y)\) for some derivation \(d\) on \(R\). Suppose that \(f(x_1,\dots,x_n)\) is a multilinear polynomial over \(K\), \(I\) is a nonzero right ideal of \(R\), and \(m\) is a fixed positive integer. Generalizing results by \textit{Y.\ Wang} [Algebra Colloq. 13, No. 3, 405-410 (2006; Zbl 1096.16015)], the following two results are proved. If \(g(f(r_1,\dots,r_n))^m=0\) for all \(r_1,\dots,r_n\in I\) then one of the following holds: (1) \([f(x_1,\dots,x_n),x_{n+1}]x_{n+2}\) is an identity for \(I\); (2) \(g(x)=ax\) for all \(x\in R\), where \(a\in U\) with \(aI=0\); (3) \(g(x)=ax+[q,x]\) for all \(x\in R\), where \(a,q\in U\) with \(aI=0\) and \([q,I]I=0\). If there exist \(a_1,\dots,a_n\in I\) such that \(g(f(a_1,\dots,a_n))^m\neq 0\) and \(g(f(r_1,\dots,r_n))^m\in Z(R)\) for all \(r_1,\dots,r_n\in I\) then one of the following holds: (1) \(f(x_1,\dots,x_n)x_{n+1}\) is an identity for \(I\); (2) \(f(x_1,\dots,x_n)\) is central valued on \(R\); (3) \(g(x)=ax\) for \(a\in C\), \(f(x_1,\dots,x_n)\) is power central valued on \(R\); (4) \(R\) satisfies \(s_4\), the standard identity in four variables.
