In the paper under review, the authors prove a rigidity theorems for Tor and Ext (i.e. vanishing theorems for \(\text{Tor}_i^R(M,N)\) and \(\text{Ext}^i_R(M,N)\)) over a commutative local ring \(R\), when the modules involved are both of finite complete intersection dimension. These theorems are viewed as a generalization of rigidity theorems of \textit{M. Auslander} [Ill. J. Math. 5, 631--647 (1961; Zbl 0104.26202)] and \textit{S. Lichtenbaum} [Ill. J. Math. 10, 220--226 (1966; Zbl 0139.26601)]. These rigidity theorems generalize and improve upon known results. In addition, the authors introduce a notion of pre-rigidity, which generalizes phenomena for modules of finite complete intersection dimension and complexity one.
