Let \(I_t\) be the determinantal ideal of an extended Hankel matrix whose entries are some variables of a polynomial ring. These ideals define interesting geometric objects; \(I_2\) is the defining ideal of a rational normal scroll in a projective space and its \((t-1)\)-st secant variety is defined by \(I_t\). Exploring/using properties of c-chains, of secant ideals and of certain initial ideals the paper gives Gröbner bases for the symbolic powers \(I_t^{(s)}\) of \(I_t\), describes \(I_t^{(s)}\) in terms of suitable powers of \(I_t\) and computes primary decomposition of the product \(I_{t_1}\cdots I_{t_k}\). It also shows that \(I_{t_1}\cdots I_{t_k}\) has a linear resolution and a square-free quadratic Gröbner basis yielding Cohen-Macaulayness and Koszulness of its multi-graded Rees algebra.
