Let \(({\mathcal H},[\cdot,\cdot])\) be a Krein space so that, with respect to some Hilbert space norm \(\| \cdot \|\) on \({\mathcal H}\), \(|[x,y]| \leq \|x\|\|y\|\) for all \(x,y\in \mathcal H\), and let \(L(\mathcal H)\) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on \(\mathcal H\). Given \(N\in L(\mathcal H)\), let \(N^{+}\) denote its adjoint operator with respect to the inner product \([\cdot,\cdot]\). If \(N\) and \(N^{+}\) commute, then \(N\) is said to be \textit{normal}. In the paper under review, the author continues the study of \textit{F. Philipp}, \textit{V. Strauss} and \textit{C. Trunk} [Math. Nachr. 286, No. 1, 42--58 (2013; Zbl 1270.47034)] of the spectral points \(\sigma_{+}(N)\) of positive type (and \(\sigma_{-}(N)\) of negative type) for normal operators and considers the set of all \(\lambda \in \mathbb{C}\) such that \(\lambda \in \sigma_{+}(N)\) and \( \overline{\lambda} \in \sigma_{+}(N^{+})\). This set is called \textit{spectrum of two-sided positive type} of \(N\) and is denoted by \(\sigma_{++}(N)\); analogously is defined the set \(\sigma_{--}(N) = (\lambda \in \sigma_{-}(N))\cap(\overline{\lambda} \in \sigma_{-}(N^{+}))\). It is proved that, on sets \(\triangle \subset \mathbb{C}\) of \textit{two-sided positive type}, i.e., such that \(\triangle \cap\sigma(N) \subset \sigma_{++}(N)\), the operator \(N\) has a local spectral function of positive type on \(\triangle\). It is shown that the spectral subspace corresponding to a spectral set of positive type is a Hilbert space with respect to the Krein space inner product. The author notes that, for Pontryagin spaces, \(\sigma_{+}(N)=\sigma_{++}(N)\), while in general this equality has to be left open.
